Microstructures and Phase Transformations of Melt-Spun Ti-V-Al High Temperature Shape Memory Alloys with Addition of Zr

نویسندگان

چکیده

In this study, the effects of Zr addition on phase transformation temperatures, microstructure Ti-12V-4Al (wt. %) high temperature shape memory alloys (HTSMAs) manufactured using melt-spinning technique were investigated. During heating, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) curves showed that austenite melt-spun ribbon was single-stage and Ti-12V-4Al-0.5Zr two-stage transformation. electron microscopy (SEM) X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyzes, unveiled ribbons consisted martensite, R phases. Transmission (TEM) analysis thickness martensite plates in thinned by Zr.

Slip Resistance of Ti-Based High-Temperature Shape Memory Alloys

Titanium with Nb, Zr, and Ta alloying substitutions possesses high plastic slip resistance and high transformation strains upon bcc (b) to orthorhombic ða00Þ transformation. In the current study, we determine the critical resolved shear stress (CRSS) for slip in Ti alloyed for a wide composition range of Nb, Ta, and Zr. The CRSS is obtained with a proposed Peierls–Nabarro formalism incorporatin...

Hard magnetic properties of melt-spun Mn-Al-C alloys

Structural and magnetic characterization of Mnx−yAl100−x−yC2y (x = {50, 55}; y = {0, 1}) melt-spun ribbons is reported. To obtain the metastable ferromagnetic τ-phase, rapidly solidified alloys were annealed either in a vacuum furnace at 823 K or directly in the vibrating sample magnetometer under applied magnetic field. Optimal magnetic properties were demonstrated by Mn54Al44C2 samples proved...

Gradient Distribution of Martensite Phase in Melt-Spun Ribbons of a Fe-Ni-Ti-Al Alloy

Metallographic, X-ray diffraction and magnetometric analysis were used to study the regularities of martensitic transformation in melt-spun ribbons of a Fe - 28 wt. % Ni - 2.1 wt. % Ti - 2 wt. % Al - 0.05 wt. % C alloy. The substantial differences in volume fractions of the martensite phase in local regions of thin melt-spun ribbons of the alloy are related to the size effect of the transformat...

Design of High Temperature Ti-Pd-Cr Shape Memory Alloys with Small Thermal Hysteresis

The large thermal hysteresis (ΔT) during the temperature induced martensitic transformation is a major obstacle to the functional stability of shape memory alloys (SMAs), especially for high temperature applications. We propose a design strategy for finding SMAs with small thermal hysteresis. That is, a small ΔT can be achieved in the compositional crossover region between two different martens...

Precipitation evolution in Al–Zr and Al–Zr–Ti alloys during aging at 450–600 C

The transformation of Al3Zr (L12) and Al3(Zr1 xTix) (L12) precipitates to their respective equilibrium D023 structures is investigated in conventionally solidified Al–0.1Zr and Al–0.1Zr–0.1Ti (at.%) alloys aged isothermally at 500 C or aged isochronally in the range 300– 600 C. Titanium additions delay neither coarsening of the metastable L12 precipitates nor their transformation to the D023 st...
